Bolivian president Evo Morales Ayma (centre) leads an International Hike along a section of the Qhapaq Ñan Inca road from Azafranal near Lake Titicaca (which is visible in the background)
The event was organised on June 20th 2019 by the Ministry of Cultures & Tourism to promote tourism and integration of Bolivia's indigenous cultures. Bolivia also assumed the Temporary Presidency / Presidencia Pro Témpore of the Qhapaq Ñan on 21st June 2019, which it will hold for 2 years. The position rotates between the 6 Andean nations through which the Qhapaq Ñan passes; UNESCO works with them to preserve the road and sustainably promote tourism along its route.
