San Marcos church at twilight, Plaza Colon, Arica, Chile
San Marcos church is one of several buildings in northern Chile designed by the French architect Gustave Eiffel. It was originally commissioned for Ancon in Peru but relocated after an earthquake destroyed the original church of Arica in 1868. Its cast iron sections were built in France, shipped to South America and assembled on the site; the church was inaugurated in 1876.
