Stone phalluses in Inca Uyo fertility temple at Chucuito , near Puno , Peru
Chucuito used to be the capital of the Lupaqa tribe and then an important Inca settlement after they expanded their empire into the region. Whether the Inca Uyo site was actually a fertility temple or not is controversial. Many of the phallus shaped stones were found in the area and in houses in the village and placed relatively recently inside the existing Inca stone walled enclosure. Why there seems to have been an abundance of these stones in Chucuito and what their original purpose was is still something of a mystery.
