Locals parade with figure of San Santiago after mass , Taquile Island , Peru
San Santiago (or St James the Moor-Slayer) is the patron saint of the island (a tradition introduced by the Spanish, who often depicted him as a conquistador during their conquest of the Americas). A slightly strange choice given horses were never used by the island's inhabitants, these days only sheep are kept as livestock.
