The world's longest thinnest country, Chile appears squashed between the Andes mountains and the Pacific Ocean on the western side of South America. Some 4,200km long but on average not much more than 100km wide; it countains an amazing variety of landscapes, from the Atacama Desert (the world's driest) in the north to the famous peaks of Torres del Paine and Patagonia in the south.
