Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca, is known as the folklore capital of Peru due to the large number of festivals and dances held in the region. By far the largest and most important festival is that celebrating the Virgen de la Candelaria, which takes place at the start of February. Celebrations last for 2 weeks and feature many dance parades as well as religious events.
