In the centre is a Christogram symbol, consisting of the letters IHS (a shortened form of the Greek word for Jesus) with a cross. It takes several forms. On the left is the Auspice Maria symbol, made of the intertwined letters A and M and is a monogram of the Virgin Mary. Auspice Maria is the Latin for “Under the protection of Mary”.
