Salt hexagons at sunset

View across the vast expanse of the Salar de Uyuni, with the Tunupa volcano on the horizon. The hexagonal patterns are formed as the salt crystallises when water evaporates from the surface. The salt varies in depth from 2 to 20m, beneath is a reservoir of super saturated salt solution.
