Perito Moreno Glacier

Contrary to many expectations the surfaces of glaciers are not smooth but a spectacular array of crevasses and fissures, due to internal stresses caused by the movement of the glacier. Hence the wonderful jagged surface seen here at the glacier's snout; large blocks of ice break off and crash into the lake frequently, a spectacular sight and sound.
