CUSCO & SACRED VALLEY

Choquequirao

Panoramic view of the Inca site of Choquequirao. Choquequirao means "cradle of gold" in Quechua and sits high on a ridge above the Apurimac river in a remote part of the Cordillera Vilcabamba. It is thought to have been built by Topa Inca, Pachacuti's sucessor and investigation suggests it may still have been occupied at the time of the Spanish conquest.
