CUSCO & SACRED VALLEY

Inca salt terraces at Maras

Undoubtably the most unusual Inca site in the Sacred Valley are the salt teraces at Maras. Water from a saturated salty spring has been channelled through a series of terraces and evaporation pans some 1km in length along the side of a steep valley. Salt is still collected in the same manner today by a local run co-operative.
