ATACAMA & THE FAR NORTH

Chile's northern regions contain some of the country's wildest scenery. The area's main feature is the Atacama desert, the world's driest; and there is spectacular volcanic and altiplano scenery to be discovered in the high altitude regions along the Bolivian border. Most towns are found along the coast where fishing is a major industry, and the desert is also noted for its geoglyphs and remains of nitrate mining towns.
