BOLIVIA & CHILE - SAJAMA & LAUCA NATIONAL PARKS

These two parks protect some of the most spectacular scenery found in the altiplano region; snow capped volcanoes rising above the barren plains and their wildlife. Sajama was the first National Park to be established in Bolivia (in 1942) and contains the country’s highest mountain of the same name. Lake Chungará is the centrepiece of Chile's Lauca National Park, offering spectacular views of the Parinacota volcano.

Payachatas volcanoes at sunset

Sunset silhouettes the twin Payachatas volcanoes (Parinacota L, Pomerape R) that form part of the border between Bolivia and Chile. The thin clear air at altitude and often high winds across the bleak plains make for fascinating cloud formations.
