Cuernos ("Horns") del Paine

The Cuernos del Paine are one of the most spectacular sights in the Torres del Paine National Park. Geologically they were formed by the instrusion of granite rock pushing up from beneath older black sedimentary rock. Subsequent glacial erosion has sculpted these peaks and worn most of the sedimentary rock away, leaving it capping the granite on the highest peaks. This view is taken on the approach via the French Valley; the North Horn is the right hand peak.
