Grey Glacier

Crevasses on the surface of Grey Glacier form an abstract image. Not all parts of a glacier move at the same speed, friction slows movement near the "banks" where there are often "eddies" and there is a main "current" in the middle; very similar to a normal liquid river except much, much slower (a glacier typically moves at a couple of metres a day). The rougher and more crevassed the surface the faster the ice is moving and the greater the stresses within it.
