"Wiñay Wayna" orchid

Close up of flower head of the "Wiñay Wayna" orchid (Epidendrum secundum), one of the commonest to be found along the Inca Trail and in similar habitats. The Quechua name means "Forever Young" due to the fact it flowers all year round. The final archaeological site on the Inca Trail also takes its name from the species; it is particularly common in that area. There are several colour forms, the pink one being the commonest.
