Sun Temple and Huayna Picchu

View of Machu Picchu on a stormy afternoon, with the Sun Temple in the right foreground. One of the most important buildings in the city, it is also the only construction with a curved wall. The bedrock inside the temple has been carved into an altar; on the midwinter solstice (21 June) the sun shines directly through a window and illuminates the central platform.
