The northern part of Chilean Patagonia (also known as the Araucania region) contains one of the world's most beautiful lake districts. As well as lakes the area is renowned for its snow capped volcanoes and is also the only region where you can find native Araucaria or "Monkey Puzzle" forests.

Lake Pehuen
Pehuen is the local Mapuche Indian name for the araucaria or "Monkey Puzzle" tree (Araucaria araucana). As the name suggests it is common along the shores of Lake Pehuen, a rarely visited gem in Huerquehue National Park, Chile.
