Lake Titicaca is said to be the world’s highest navigable lake and is also the 14th largest by volume. An 8,400 square kilometre blue jewel in the bleak grasslands of the altiplano, it sits 3810m / 12,500ft above sea level and is shared by Peru and Bolivia.

Tortora reed boat
Boats built out of tortora reeds have been used for millenia by the people who lived on the shores of the Lake and are still used today. They can easily be seen on the Inner Lake and also around the floating reed Uros Islands near Puno, Peru.
