Sajama was the first National Park to be established in Bolivia (in 1942) and contains the country’s highest mountain of the same name. As well as protecting some of Bolivia's most spectacular altiplano landscapes the Park is also home to unusual high altitude wildlife and flora. The region is also noted for its rustic adobe churches and chullpas (or burial towers).

Sajama volcano
A close up of the awesome west face of Sajama volcano (6542m / 21,465ft). The valley below here is one of the main approach routes used by mountaineers aiming for Bolivia's highest summit.
