Sajama flora

Some of the high altitude flora specialities of the Park can be seen in this image. The green plant in the foreground is Yareta (Azorella compacta), which is very slow growing (up to 1cm / year) and used by locals for fuel. The bushes behind are keñua (Polylepis tarapacana); smaller dwarf versions can be found growing on the flanks of the volcano at heights of 5200m / 17,050ft - the world's highest tree line.
