Probably South America's best known capital city, Buenos Aires has an atmosphere and style that is unique. It grew rapidly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, fuelled by huge numbers of immigrants from Europe (mainly Spain and Italy) and money from meat, leather and wool industries among others (between the World Wars Argentina was one of the world's richest countries). Spending on remodelling the city in this period was enormous, not for nothing it is sometimes called "The Paris of South America" due to its European style architecture.

La Bombonera stadium, La Boca
La Bombonera (literally "chocolate box", so named due to its steep sides) is the home of Boca Juniors, one of South America's most famous football teams. Argentines love their soccer and Boca Juniors can always count on fanatical local support, often including Diego Maradona who began his career here.
