Chile's northern regions contain some of the country's wildest scenery. The area's main feature is the Atacama desert, the world's driest; and there is spectacular high altitude volcanic and altiplano scenery to be discovered in the Lauca and Isluga National Parks on the Bolivian border. Most towns are found along the coast where fishing is a major industry; the desert is also noted for its geoglyphs and remains of nitrate mining towns.

Isluga village
Isluga church is one of the quaintest adobe village churches found in Chile and one of the main attractions of the remote Isluga National Park. It is a "ceremonial" village and is deserted for most of the year; the Aymara inhabitants work in the towns on the coast and return to the village only for major festivals.
