Huaca de la Luna
Detail of a frieze showing a row of priests at a ceremony, recently discovered in the Huaca de la Luna (Temple of the Moon) pyramid close to Trujillo. Little was known of social structure of the Moche culture (apart from the obviously advanced nature of their society and amazing skills as goldsmiths and potters) until the amazing discoveries in the late 1980’s at Sipan. These included the untouched tomb of a Moche ruler known as the Lord of Sipan which was described as the Tutenkhamun of the Americas. For more details please visit the website of Las Huacas del Sol y de la Luna (in English).
