The provinces of Salta and Jujuy in the far north of Argentina contain some of the country's most impressive mountain landscapes. Salt lakes, the altiplano of the high Andes and canyons with amazingly coloured rock formations are a few of its attractions. The famous Quebrada de Humahuaca was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003 to protect its cultural sites and multicoloured Andean landscapes. Salta city is arguably the most attractive colonial town in Argentina.

Church of St Francis of Paula, Uquia
This beautiful little church in Uquia is probably the most interesting of the many colonial churches in the Quebrada de Humahuaca. It is particularly noted for its fine collection of historic paintings from the Cusco religious art school.
