Ampato volcano

The flat topped Ampato volcano (6288m / 20,630ft) is the highest peak in the immediate vicinity of the Colca Canyon. It became world famous when on 8 September 1995 a National Geographic funded expedition led by Johan Reinhard discovered a perfectly preserved Inca mummy, now known as "Juanita", just below the summit. In the foreground is Lake Mucurca, popular with flamingoes.
