Arequipa

Arequipa’s Santa Catalina convent is unique in Latin America. More like a separate walled town within the city than a building, it is still functions as a convent though much of the complex is open to the public. Inside are many beautiful courtyards, squares and streets in a variety of colours. The convent was founded in 1579, some 40 years after the arrival of the Spanish in the region.
