Aconcagua (6962m / 22,840ft) is the highest peak in the Andes (in fact the highest in the Americas or anywhere in the world outside the Himalayas) and is found in central Argentina near Mendoza. A mecca for mountaineering as a result, the area contains spectacular mountain scenery, not only around Aconcagua itself but throughout the whole central Andean Cordillera. Notable regions include the Calingasta Valley in neighbouring San Juan province and the great rock canyon of Talampaya National Park in La Rioja province.

Puente del Inca
"The Inca's Bridge" is an unusual geological formation crossing the River de las Cuevas close to the entrances to Aconcagua. Opinion varies as to whether it is purely a rock bridge or an old glacial bridge that has been solidified over time by mineral deposits; there are thermal baths there hence the orange formations.
