Complete view of rock paintings of what is thought to be a battle scene at Waylla Ph’uyu, near Yaricoa Alto, La Paz Department, Bolivia
The unusual rock art site at Waylla Ph’uyu is thought to show a battle between indigenous and Spanish / colonial armies. It most likely refers to the indigenous uprisings of 1781-2, but could also possibly be of a later rebellion in the 19th century Republican period. The site consists of 2 main panels, both of which can be seen in this image, with groups of human and animal figures facing each other.
