Cathedral and Presidential Palace (centre), new Government Palace / Casa Grande del Pueblo under construction behind, Plaza Murillo, La Paz, Bolivia
This image shows the controversial new Government Palace / Casa Grande del Pueblo under construction behind the Presidential Palace (which it will replace). Construction on this 29 storey building started in 2014 and will cost around $36 million dollars. Critics have questioned whether it is actually necessary and whether the money could have been better spent on other projects, and also the huge visual impact it has on the historic city centre. On the left is the Congress building / Legislative Palace.
