Church bell gable and statue of Alonso de Mendoza, Laja, near La Paz, Bolivia
Laja is where the city of La Paz was originally founded by the Spanish conquistador Alonso de Mendoza on 20th October 1548. He then re-founded it at its current location (which he felt was preferable) 3 days later. The church was built around 1680 and the gables added in the 18th century.
