Rock covered with maritime deposits (stromatolites) and Echinopsis atacamensis cacti, Incahuasi Island, Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia
These stromatolite / fossilised maritime deposits were formed when the Salar and its islands were covered by the huge prehistoric Lakes Minchin and Tauca. The surface crust has broken away to show the large volcanic boulder beneath in this image; also note that the cacti are flowering.
