Mural showing Inca star constellations and the Andean Cross or Chakana, Calama, Region II, Chile
The four animal constellations in this mural were associated with dark patches in the Milky Way by the Incas and considered living or animate constellations. They are Hanp'atu the Toad, Mach'acuay the Serpent, Urcuchillay the Llama and Atoq the Fox. Andean rural communities still recognise these constellations today.
