The 33 miners were trapped underground when a tunnel collapsed in the San José mine on 5 August 2010. They were finally rescued on 13th October 2010 after 70 days underground, the longest time anyone has survived being trapped underground. This image shows Day 18 of the operation / 22nd August 2010, the day the miners sent a note to the surface with the drill probe when it reached the gallery where they were trapped - the first contact they had with the rescue team and outside world.
