Puya raimondii with nearly full grown flower spike after being burnt the previous year, Comanche, Bolivia
Towards the end of the dry season peasants often start fires to clear vegetation for agriculture, a practice known as chaqueo locally. Fires can often get out of control. This plant was burnt the previous year but that hasn't affected its ability to flower. The plants in the background still have old flower spikes from previous years
