Metal cross on tiled roof of building in Santa Ana district, Cusco, Peru
Crosses are commonly placed on the roofs of buildings in the Cusco Region and elsewhere in Peru. They are believed to bring protection and good luck to the family, and show the influence of the Spanish / Catholic colonisation of the region. Indigenous / Andean symbols are often present as well, such as the sun in this image. This one also has a spade, pick axe and ceramic model of the nearby Santa Ana church.
