Monument to Admiral Miguel Grau and his warship Huascar, Ilo, Peru
Admiral Miguel María Grau Seminario is Peru's most famous naval officer and an iconic figure for the Peruvian Navy. He was known as el Caballero de los Mares (Spanish for "Knight of the Seas") for his chivalry. During the War of the Pacific he led the Peruvian navy to victory over the Chilean fleet at the Battle of iquique (5th April 1879), before he was killed at the Battle of Angamos on on 8 October 1879.
