Southern or Crested Screamers (Chauna torquata) in water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) swamp
Found in swamps, wetlands and near water in tropical lowlands of far SE Peru, N and E Bolivia, S and W Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and N Argentina. They are large birds, almost 1 metre long and with a weight of 3–5kg (6.6–11 lb) the heaviest of the 3 screamer species. Local names: chajá, tapacaré, tachá, chahá.
