James's or Puna flamingos (Phoenicoparrus jamesi) feeding in Laguna Colorada, Bolivia
Named after Harry Berkley James who sponsored the expedition that first collected specimens. Considered a vulnerable species, it was thought to be extinct until a colony was rediscovered in 1956. Laguna Colorada in southwestern Bolivia is their most important breeding site. Red legs. Local names: parina chica, pariguana chica.
