Andean flamingos (Phoenicoparrus andinus, R), James's or Puna flamingo (Phoenicoparrus jamesi, L)
The James's or Puna and Andean flamingos are often found together, closely related and placed in a separate genus (Phoenicoparrus) to other flamingos. The Andean flamingo is notably larger that the James's and has more black on the rear of the body. The Andean also has yellow legs, the James's flamingo has red legs. Note also the different pattern of beak and base - James's flamingo has less black and more yellow on beak and a small red patch between beak and eye. Image taken at Salar de Surire in northern Chile.
