James's or Puna flamingo (Phoenicoparrus jamesi) feeding
Named after Harry Berkley James who sponsored the expedition that first collected specimens. Considered a vulnerable species, it was thought to be extinct until a colony was rediscovered in 1956. Image taken at Laguna Hedionda in southwest Bolivia. Red legs, adult breeding birds like this one have more red / pink feathers on back. Local names: parina chica, pariguana chica.
