Fairly common in cloud forests (1000-3400m) of eastern slopes of Andes in Peru, Bolivia and northern Argentina. Amount of red on face and head very variable, research suggests there may be several subspecies or even new monotypic species. Formerly classed in Aratinga family. Also known as mitred conure. Local names: loro de cara roja, lorocariroja.
