Antonio López (Lópes) de Quiroga (approx 1620 - 1699) was an important silver mine owner in Potosí. He was born near Triacastela, Lugo, Galicia, Spain and was the leading silver producer of Potosí (and possibly of all Spanish America) in the seventeenth century. He also founded the San Francisco church and convent in Potosí, and was involved in various other enterprises in addition to mining. The painting shows Potosí and the famous Cerro Rico in the background.
