Antonio José de Sucre y Alcalá (1795 – 1830) was a Venezuelan independence leader and one of Simón Bolívar's closest friends. He is also known as the "Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho" ("Grand Marshal of Ayacucho") after leading the independence forces to an important victory at the Battle of Ayacucho on 9 December 1824. He was the 2nd president of Bolivia, from 29 December 1825 to 18 April 1828.
