This image shows the cathedral (centre), the high rise Bolivian Central Bank building (L) and the Hotel Presidente (green building, R). The huge new building under construction is the controversial new Government Palace / Casa Grande del Pueblo. Construction on this 29 storey building (which will replace the old presidential palace and also house several government ministries) started in 2014 and will cost around $36 million dollars. Critics have questioned whether it is actually necessary and whether the money could have been better spent on other projects, and also the huge visual impact it has on the historic city centre.
