Llanos de Challe National Park covers 45,708 hectares of mainly coastal desert between Huasco and Carrizal Bajo in the southern Atacama Desert. It was designated a National Park in 1994 to protect the unusual and valuable flora of the region - this is one of the main areas where the Flowering Desert takes places if there is sufficient spring rainfall. Please visit the separate Flowering Desert gallery for more images of the phenomena.
