The Battle of Dolores was fought between Chilean and Allied (Bolivian and Peruvian) land forces on 19 November 1879 during the War of the Pacific. It is also called the Battle of San Francisco as it took place at the San Francisco nitrate oficina / mine below San Francisco hill. The battle resulted in an important victory for the Chilean army; it took place soon after they landed at nearby Pisagua and helped give them control of Tarapacá province.
