Tarapacá Region (formerly Region I) is a large Region covering 41,799 km2 / 16,139 sq miles in northern Chile with Iquique as its capital (see the Iquique City gallery for images). Along with the Arica and Parinacota Region (which used to be part of Tarapacá Region until 2007) it was part of Peru prior to the War of the Pacific (1879-1883).
