Wiracocha / Viracocha is the great creator god of Andean mythology, not only for the Incas but also earlier civilisations. Wiracochan (or Tunupa / Thunupa) was Wiracocha's messenger and this rock face on the mountain overlooking Ollantaytambo is said to represent him. The face (which is 140m high) is much more obvious in the afternoon when the sun and shadow highlight the features. The building on top of the head is in the form of a chuku, a special hat with 4 points worn by priests / astronomers.
