Close up of winged llama stone carving on the Jinchunkala monolith at site of Konko Wankane, La Paz Department, Bolivia
Konko Wankane (also spelt Khonkho Wankane / Wakani) was an important Late Formative / pre Tiwanaku era ceremonial site in the Jachcha Jahuira river valley near Jesús de Machaca approx 30km south of Tiwanaku. The Jinchunkala monolith is the largest and most significant at the site. The winged llama figure / deity is similar to later carvings and figures at Tiwanaku.
